Aphra Behn was a 17th-century English author and one of the first women to publish extensively in English literature. Her novella Oroonoko addresses colonialism, slavery, and human dignity with striking moral clarity for its era, presenting a narrative that interrogates colonial justifications and racial prejudice. She also wrote plays and poetry challenging social and gender conventions of her time.
